A bottle of La Chapita salsa roja, five fluid ounces

What it is

A pourable salsa roja, in the LA taquería tradition

Sabor auténtico

Chile de árbol for the sharp heat up top. Chile japonés for the low, round heat that lasts. Two chiles instead of one, so it covers the whole arc, not just the spike.

Smooth and pourable — an authentic salsa roja, not a thin vinegar hot sauce and not a chunky jarred salsa. It goes on tacos, eggs, rice, beans, whatever’s on the plate.

How it’s made

Hecha en pequeños lotes

Cooked in small batches — about a thousand bottles at a time, sold until they’re gone.

  1. Two chiles, not one

Árbol is lean and immediate. Japonés is rounder and stays longer. Together they cover the whole range of the heat instead of just the first hit.

  2. Cooked down until it pours

Simmered down to a smooth, glossy pour — loose enough to run off the spoon, thick enough to sit on a taco without sliding off.

  3. Bottled at five ounces

Eggs in the morning, carnitas at night, rice on a Tuesday. It ends up on more than you planned for.

The story

Where it comes from

Inspired by the taqueros of México and the taco trucks and neighborhood shops of Los Angeles, La Chapita is our take on the salsa roja we always reach for — bright, chile-forward and properly spicy.

The name comes from family: our Mexican mother-in-law is little, fiery and never afraid of a little heat.

Árbol + japonés. Sabor auténtico.
